Benson Brew Taipan

I first noticed Benson Brew two weeks ago when the owner posted a link about it into our SubangFood Facebook group. When I checked out the Google Reviews, it was overwhelmingly positive, so I decided to check it out.

It’s run by Kenvin, a Driver Training Specialist that teaches defensive driving. So it’s no surprise that there are posters about racing inside. He started learning more about coffee back in 2022, and decided to start Benson Brew as his passion project, named after his Grandfather.

It’s actually been open since March 2023, which surprised me, because I walk around Taipan a lot, and am always pleasantly surprised to realise that I’ve missed many businesses.

Arian is the young barista handling everything when Kenvin isn’t around. When I was taking a break at the counter, I could overhear Arian chatting about coffee, and you can tell that he’s very passionate about this, which is wonderful to hear.

Coffee

The coffee available is premium Italian coffee, and Kenvin or Arian will be able to advice you whether to go for the light or medium roast, based on your preferences.

There is the house select (currently beans from Fiji), and the Benson Blend.

There are free coconut cookies at the counter too, which is a nice touch.

Ambiance

It’s a simple store, where the focus is on the coffee, less so about creating a pretty café atmosphere. If you sit around for a while, you’ll see many regulars stopping by to get the coffee to go.

What I do like is that there is a single table at the back with four chairs. Which allowed me to have my own hidden private meeting space in Taipan with good coffee.

I set up a meeting with a friend who lives in Subang, and always find it interesting to see the reaction of a “private” meeting space at the back.
