As we move towards our goal of creating a sustainable food ecosystem in Subang, I want to ensure a certain level of transparency in our community. Therefore this page will serve as a reference point for anybody who is keen to know more about this matter.

Reviews and food visits

One of the most common questions I get is how much I charge to review or visit a business. Personally, I don’t understand how anybody can be paid to do a food review and still do right by all 3 parties (the F&B business, the community members, and the ecosystem builder). If you receive money to do a review, what happens when you dislike the food?

I do like to visit and try out food in Subang in my free time at my own cost, so it’s not the best value to offer to pay me to do something that I’m already doing for free. However I do visit places based on my own schedule, and if you’d like to book my time, I’m open to being paid for that.

I don’t do reviews either, mainly because I dislike it and prefer to let members in the community voice their views, which I feel is more relevant.

Feliciously

My wife has been baking cakes for customers and supplying to various cafes over the last 10 years under her Feliciously brand. You can find out more about her cakes on her Facebook page.

Active business dealings (sponsorships, consultancy, collaborations)

Engagement by a business doesn’t change what I post/visit, since those are already done for free. It may include free food for members, consultancy on F&B matters, and exploration of collaborations.

Exclusions

  • Advertisements in the SubangFood Digest are not listed here, because there are many traditional advertising slots available there, and it’s clear that those are advertisements.
  • Sometimes businesses give me free food out of gratitude, and there is no feasible way for me to track and disclose this activity.
