Hey!
It seems like just yesterday I that I decided to start a Facebook group in the middle of October 2023 to share some of my favourite food places in Subang. After staring at a meagre 16 members (my friends) for a few weeks, the group really took off after places like Dosa by Dosagroup and YODmilk became so popular. Now, we’re rounding off 2023 with an incredible 8,000 members!

Plans for 2024
- Makan gatherings
There is interest amongst members for a meet up, so I’m looking to arrange a get together in January. If you’re interested, do vote on your preferred time slot(s). - Steady sponsorship and promotions
There has a been a lot of interest for food vendors to post their advertisements into the group, and while I understand and want to support our local Subang businesses, I’m doing my best to keep the group organised and curated too. The monthly sponsorship is my current solution to strike a balance between curating the group and helping local businesses out. I’ll continue to experiment to find the best balance of this. Thanks for the support from everybody. - Collaborations
There have been collaboration enquiries from other groups and I find some of them complimentary. I’ll share more on this when I’ve worked out some details, but rest assured our foodie culture in the group with be protected. - Refinement of the website design
Considering that I’ve been building websites for close to 20 years, the design of the current SubangFood website is quite embarrassing. Though I put it up first as I wanted to ensure that the information was shared instead of waiting for the design to be done. I’ll fix up the website layout and refine the design throughout 2024. - Further testing and improvement
There are many parts of the website and group that need refinement. I’ll continue to work on those within the time constraints I have. Continual improvement and sustainability is always my goal.

Supporting this group
Managing the website and group has required an increasing amount of time, and I’m doing my best to keep the group well curated and website content fresh. If you’d like to help, these are some of the ways you can.
- Email newsletter: This is still the most important to me. Subscribing (and staying subscribed) to the SubangFood newsletter is currently the best way to support my efforts to curate and care for this community. Recommending this site and the newsletter to friends helps a lot.
- Take advantage of the sponsor promotions: If you find any of the sponsor promotions are beneficial to you, feel free to use them. It lets me know that we’re making a difference to the community and our local businesses too.
Sponsorship
Businesses in Subang who are keen to collaborate with or sponsor our group are welcome to reach out to me via Whatsapp or replying this email.
I’d love to have a chat on how we can support the SubangFood community. I love listening to and understanding the story of local businesses.
Special thanks
I wanted to thank everybody who has joined the community, and shared your valuable comments too. I’m really grateful for everybody who has shared their food reviews and discoveries. I initially created to group to share about the food I found, but in a lovely twist, I find that I’m discovering more food and getting more out of the group, which reminds me that as long as we continue to share and give, we will receive more. What a great way to end 2024!
Happy New Year (in advance) to everyone!
Cheers,
Matt from SubangFood
