Minor news and discoveries in the neighbourhood (18 Jan 2024)

It’s been a busy week with a lot of food-related activities going in Subang.

Our first makan gathering

Kebaabish Subang Jaya

We managed to pull off our first SubangFood makan gathering at Kebaabish last week, and I’m happy that it went off without any issues. We even had friends come all the way from Ampang to join us, and we ended up sharing many food spots with each other.

Angie who is regularly supplying and teaching sourdough to our community made an appearance, and I’m always super happy to see businesses and community members get to know each other.

There has been active discussion over a local establishment in our group over the last week. While the conversation has mostly been about disappointment, the flip side is that there have been many recommendations for alternatives in the comments.

If you’re keen to try a new place, Aladin in USJ 9 is worth exploring. They’re one of our sponsors for the month, providing members 20% off menu items. Details of the promotion is in our member promotions page.

It received happy reviews from Celine and Laura in our group.

Operational improvements

  • The group has recently had a sudden influx of new users, which has unfortunately caused spam, bad manners, and hate speech to appear. I’m doing my best to finalise the group rules for everybody’s benefit. In the meantime, please do report any scam/spam/violation you notice. It really helps me eradicate the unpleasant comments. I’ll do the necessary after.
  • I’m still in the midst of cleaning up this site. Apologies on the delay. I will do the necessary refinements over the Chinese New Year break.

If you’re a business serving Subang

  • Do feel free to share your business information. I will be sharing advertising opportunities soon via email. It will be in a limited format, and (mostly) not be direct advertisements in the Facebook group itself.
  • Feel free to update your CNY operation information here. I plan to compile a summary for members. Based on the coherent information. You can include if you’re open/closed or have limited operating hours during CNY.
  • If you’re a café owner that has an interest in welcoming remote workers (people who bring their laptops to work at your place), do reach out to me. I have some initiatives in the pipeline that might be of interest to you.

Have a great week.

Cheers,
Matt from SubangFood
